The Greek island of Alonissos is located in the archipelago of the northern Sporades, in close proximity to the islands of Skiathos and Skopelos. With an area of 65 km², it is one of the small islands, but its peaceful atmosphere will breathe on you from all sides. Thanks to its beautiful and unspoilt nature, less tourism, a holiday on this island is a truly refreshing experience. Alonissos and the surrounding islands are a National Marine Park for their unique natural wealth. A visit to the park is an experience, as the local waters are home to the last population of Mediterranean fur seals.
The main town of the island was Alonissos, situated on a hilltop just 3 km from Patatiri. In 1965, the town was completely destroyed and depopulated due to an earthquake and then completely uninhabited for a few years. Later, most of the houses were rebuilt. Thanks to sensitive reconstruction, the buildings have retained many original features, such as the slate roofs with handmade decorations. The views of the sea and the local sunsets are among the most beautiful. The current capital is the port town of Patitiri. It is a peaceful place full of cafes, tavernas overlooking the sea and small fishing boats. The town takes its name from the word patitiria, which means wine pressing, and was once an important wine-growing area.
Locals say that Alonissos is a fish-shaped island. A spine (main road) runs through the middle of the island. From this there are endless bones (roads/roads), each leading to a beach. The local sunny beaches and clear sea beckon for relaxation and swimming. Divers will also find their own. The south of the island is home to a number of diving centres. The beaches are among the cleanest in the world. Sandy beaches are few and far between - the most famous are Vythisma and Vrysitsa. The rest of the beaches are pebble or pebble beaches, some of which offer complete privacy.
